Protein shaker bottles are popular because of their convenience and ease of use. As we try to lead healthy lifestyles, nutritious drinks become more important. They are something we prepare daily. However, for some, a convenient hand-held blender cup is something they still need to find.

There are several hand-held shaker bottles on the market today, but I’m going to compare two very popular products. The BlenderBottle and the Turbo Shaker.

BlenderBottle®

The BlenderBottle® utilizes a wire whisker ball to mix your ingredients. They call this the BlenderBall®, and it is the mechanism that combines all of the components that make up your drink.

I used the BlenderBottle® to make a chocolate powdered protein drink. Following the BlenderBottle® instructions, I put the protein powder and water in the bottle and then dropped in the wire BlenderBall®. After I secured the screw-on lid, I shook the container several times until the mixture was fully blended.

The unit was easy to use, and the wire whisker ball did actually mix the powder quite well. The bottle has a screw-on lid and a large drink spout, so if you like to drink directly from the bottle, you can do that.

Turbo Shaker

The Turbo Shaker uses what they call “fin technology” to mix the contents of the bottle. The fins are actually molded into the bottle’s design, so there is no wire mixing ball necessary.

To be fair in my comparison, I chose to mix the chocolate powdered protein drink. So, following the Turbo Shaker instructions, I put the protein powder and water in the container and then snapped the lid on tightly. Shaking the bottle several times allowed me to clearly see that the mixture was achieving the desired consistency.

The shaker bottle was easy to use, and worked surprisingly well. The bottle’s fin design mixed the powder and water without leaving clumps. You can drink directly from the bottle after removing the cap, or pour the contents into a glass.

Protein Shaker Bottle Conclusions

Both the BlenderBottle® and Turbo Shaker are BPA-Free and dishwasher safe. They also both fit nicely in our car drink holders. They’re both comparably priced; with the BlenderBottle® retailing for $8.99 and the Turbo Shaker selling for $7.99, and they’re both easy to use.

Their primary customer is the fitness enthusiasts, although both companies promote using the shaker bottles for other purposes. Anything that you would typically use a bowl and whisk to combine can now be accomplished with the shaker bottles.

One thing our family cooks often is scrambled eggs. My boys cook breakfast for themselves, so if there is an easy way to prepare food, they’re definitely interested. What we discovered is that both the BlenderBottle® and Turbo Shaker mix eggs well, but the Turbo Shaker is easier to use. With the Turbo Shaker, you just crack the eggs, snap on the lid, shake about five times and then pour the mixture into the pan. You don’t have to worry about the wire ball falling out of the container.

I also found that less is better when it comes to cleaning. Because the BlenderBottle® uses a wire ball, it’s just another thing that needs to be washed. My son also discovered that the wire ball fits nicely in our garbage disposal. Not good!
